Five Faces with Alex Friedman
Portraits in tapestry are exciting and fun! Alex Friedman introduces you to the fine art of weaving small portraits: pets, friends, family, yourself, imaginary pals. On simple looms, Alex will guide you through an exploration of imagery creating any character that you can imagine or observe in tapestry weaving. Materials provided by instructor. Bring your own frame or table loom, or purchase a copper pipe loom from Alex. Intermediate level weavers encouraged.

Explore Chasing and Repoussee`
with Griffe Griffiths
Master metal artist Griffe Griffiths inspires excitement about the medium of copper and bronze and the art of chasing and repoussee` (drawing and raising). If you have taken Griffe's introductory class, you will want to continue on and learn more about this ancient technique. New to the medium? You'll learn and enjoy!
Create drawings, symbols, 2d and 3d objects; jewelry furniture fittings, and more. Suitable for beginners and experienced alike. You will alter simple hardware tools to fit the creative purpose.

Dates: June 26-27, Saturday and Sunday 10 AM-4 PM
Cost: $275 with materials fee paid to instructor of $50. You will receive copper, a steel bench block, and use of tools and propane torches. Limit of 8 participants.

Paper Structures with Susan Hersey
Creating Art with Paper Pulp
Use reeds, bamboo, twigs, gauze and sprayed paper pulp to explore sculptural forms in paper with Master artist Susan Hersey.
You may embellish your sculpture with fibers, bits of colored fabric, other papers, or paint. Work in Susan's studio: an unusual and beautiful environment in the countryside near Petaluma. Her well-equipped studio has a Hollander beater, tables and plenty of outside workspace to enjoy your day creating with pulp. Recommended for all levels and interests. Limit of 8 people. Wear old clothes so you can enjoy getting wet.

Small Objects in Metal Infused Concrete
with Grayson Malone
This is a unique exploration of the properties and possibilities of working with concrete. You will learn fundamentals of metal and concrete combination, casting and finishing techniques and become familiar with the tools of the trade. Two class sessions, on two consecutive Saturdays, will give you ample opportunity to create a box, a vase, or an oil lamp. Processes involve mold preparation, casting, scraping, grinding, carving, and embellishing with trinkets or found objects. There are more creative possibilities than you can imagine! Wear old clothes that you will ruin. Guild Master member Grayson Malone is an accomplished sculptor and former contractor who knows her materials!
This workshop will be offered in two sessions. choose one to fit your schedule.

Dates: 1st Session: July 10, Saturday, and July 17, Saturday 10 AM-5 PM
2nd Session: July 11, Sunday and July 18, Sunday.
Cost: $250 with materials fee of $25 paid to instructor. Materials will be enough to create more than one object. Bring found objects to experiment with.

Plaited Paper and Cane Baskets
with Barbara Shapiro
Master member Barbara Shapiro shares her techniques of plaiting with paper and cane to create unique baskets that can form the basis of collage to be embellished with stitching, painting, paper skins, or other surface design techniques with your favorite materials. The resulting small works could be used as holiday gifts, a simple vase, or a container for precious objects. Barbara combines her rich knowledge of historical and ethnic textiles with broad technical experience. She is a much sought after teacher in the Bay Area and nationally. This full day workshop will explore both paper and cane plaiting to create unique personal works. Limit of 10 students of all levels of ability.

Carol Wedemeyer
Combining Clay with Found Objects
This is a fast moving event that will keep your attention. Only a few tools are needed and it is fun and funny: Carol Wedemeyer, national foot bag champion, is a ceramic sculptor with a wicked sense of humor and an amazing vision. Carol will demonstrate and you will use clay to form basic shapes that make up eyes, nose, and mouth. You will be amazed at how fast figurative realism happens! During 2 subsequent session, you will glaze or burnish your creation and combine with found objects for personal poetic results.
Many great artists have used figurative abstraction in their work, and Carol will share slides. Three session workshop is suitable for all levels. Materials fee to the instructor will cover clay, glazes, paint, and firing fee. This workshop is suitable for all levels. Limit of 8.
